Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting

On December 14, 2012, 26 people were shot to death, including 20 children and six staff, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the Sandy Hook village of Newtown, Connecticat. The killer, identified by authorities as 20-year old Adam Lanza, then killed himself. Lanza had previously shot and killed his mother, a volunteer at the school, at their nearby Newtown home. It was the second-deadliest school shooting in U.S. history, after the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre.
After shooting his mother, Nancy Lanza, age 54, Adam drove her car to the school. The killing of Nancy Lanza brought the number of victims to 27. Identification belonging to his older brother, Ryan Lanza, was found on Adam Lanza's body.
In early reports by media organizations, Ryan Lanza was mistakenly identified as the shooter. He later voluntarily agreed to questioning by New Jersey Police, the Connecticit State police and the FBI. He was not considered a suspect nor taken into custody. Lt. J. Paul Vance, the Police spokesman, said that the bodies of all deceased victims were removed and identified during the night, although their names were not officially released:
Nancy Lanza, mother of the shooter
Dawn Hochsprung, 47, principal
Vicki Soto, 27, first grade teacher
Mary Sherlach, 56, school psychologist
3 unidentified adults
20 unidentified children.
